Founder & Clinical Director
Speak Easy Therapy with Catesby Buteau & Associates is focussed on: individuals, including youth and adults; adult partnerships, including non-conforming/poly partnerships; sex and gender issues; and healing from trauma. Catesby Buteau focuses on stress-related disorders, relationship issues, behavioral problems and systemic dysfunctions in adults, children and families.
Catesby identifies as a relational therapist, versed in Trauma-Informed Cognitive-Behavioral (TI-CBT), Dialectical-Behavioral (DBT) and Internal Family Systems (IFS) techniques - among others - for the treatment of anxiety, depression, behavioral disorders and relationship issues. These are especially relevant to those with sexual difficulties stemming from trauma, abuse and other sources of psychic, emotional, spiritual and physical pain.
Catesby holds a Bachelor of the Fine Arts (BFA) from the Tisch school at New York University (NYU) and a Master of Social Work (MSW) from Wurzweiler school at Yeshiva University (YU), specializing in LGBTQA+, children/youth/families, and Substance Use Disorders. After graduating, she joined the Lower Eastside Service Center’s inpatient and outpatient facilities as a psychotherapist, lending to her development in specific trauma-informed techniques regarding motivation, families, internal systems, and a variety of psychodynamic theories. Catesby then led a grant-driven outreach team in response to the burgeoning Opioid Epidemic, where she engaged in large-scale research with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and the City University of New York (CUNY). Later, Catesby joined the Dual Recovery Services Program (DRS) focussed on providing excellent outpatient clinical care for those recovering from addiction and co-occurring mental disorders. In transitioning to private practice, Catesby’s goal was to create a space for individuals and families to connect with themselves and each other safely and joyfully.
